Emerald of Katong is an uncompleted private condominium at Jalan Tembusu. URA lists it among uncompleted developments with approval. Sim Lian's project brochure states a vacant-possession date of 30 June 2029 and plans a 50-metre lap pool at 1.2 metres depth.

The brochure also separates a relaxation pool, dip pool, healing cove, spa cove, vitality pool, aqua-gym pool, tropical wading pool, Beach Splash Pool and Splash Cove. This is a planning-only guide: the development and pools are not operational, and present lesson availability is not claimed.

Quick answer

The planned 50-metre lap pool is the primary future candidate for structured lessons. Its published 1.2-metre depth may suit some independent learners and adults, but it should not be assumed appropriate for every beginner. URA establishes the project's uncompleted, approved status. The Sim Lian brochure identifies the developer, Jalan Tembusu site, 846 units, planned facilities and 30 June 2029 vacant-possession date.

Its site plan states that the lap pool is planned at 50 metres and 1.2 metres depth. It also identifies relaxation, healing, vitality and aqua-gym pools at 0.8 metres; a 0.5-metre dip pool; a spa cove ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 metres; tropical wading and Beach Splash pools at 0.3 metres; and a 0.1-metre Splash Cove.

These are planned specifications, not proof of completed conditions, pool opening, water clarity, operating rules, visitor access or coaching permission.

Choosing the future teaching area

The 50-metre lap pool is the logical starting point for a post-completion assessment. Even with a published depth, the instructor must inspect walls, steps, ladders, overflow edges, lanes, shared traffic, glare and the learner's ability to recover safely.

The aqua-gym pool is designed around exercise rather than ordinary stroke instruction. Relaxation, healing, vitality and spa areas serve wellness functions. The tropical wading, Beach Splash and Splash Cove settings are shallow play areas that may contain irregular shapes, features or heavy family use.

A numeric depth alone is never a complete safety assessment.

Future kids swimming lessons

Because the planned lap pool is stated as 1.2 metres deep, young or short beginners may be unable to stand comfortably. Their suitability will depend on water confidence, reach, a reliable wall and close instructor control.

Early skills may include calm exhalation, face immersion, supported floating, wall recovery, kicking and short movement. If the completed lap pool does not provide a suitable beginner area, an alternative venue may be safer.

Independent school-age swimmers may later work on freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, breathing coordination and repeat lengths. Parents remain responsible for direct handover and supervision outside the lesson.

The shallow adventure pools should not be used merely because their depths appear child-friendly. Play features and recreational traffic can reduce teaching control.

Future adult and ladies lessons

Adult beginners may work on breathing, balance, floating, wall recovery and short swims after a personal assessment. Learners uncomfortable at 1.2 metres should discuss this before booking so the instructor can decide whether the completed setting is appropriate.

Intermediate adults may use the planned length for stroke efficiency, turns and repeat swimming if shared conditions allow. No lane reservation is promised.

A female instructor may be requested, subject to future Katong coverage, access, schedule and availability. A women-only pool environment cannot be guaranteed.

Private and small-group options

Private lessons may suit anxious beginners, adult learners and targeted correction. Small groups may suit siblings, couples or neighbours whose abilities and safety needs are compatible.

The completed pool layout, resident traffic and management rules will determine safe group size. A large pool does not create exclusive teaching space.

Resident access and management approval

Emerald of Katong will be a private estate. Nearby public streets, MRT access, neighbourhood parks and East Coast amenities will not provide access to its residential pools.

After handover, the hosting resident should confirm whether external paid coaches are permitted, how guests are pre-registered, which entrance to use, whether identification or insurance is required and whether the resident must escort the instructor.

The brochure mentions guest e-registration and facility pre-booking, but future management rules will control actual use.

Timing and handover checks

The stated vacant-possession date is not actual TOP or pool opening. Residents should not purchase a property-specific package until lawful resident access, pool operation and coaching permission are confirmed.

After handover, verify the final pool names and depths, usable swimming distance, steps, ladders, recovery walls, lane configuration, equipment rules, operating hours and closure procedures. Compare completed conditions against the brochure and correct this guide if they differ.

Only after these checks should a named instructor, start date and property-specific quotation be accepted.

The planned pools appear outdoors and may close for lightning, heavy rain, maintenance or water-quality issues. Written lesson terms should cover notice, credits, make-ups, expiry and access-related cancellations.
