Choosing a class format at Serangoon
Classes at Serangoon Swimming Complex run as private lessons or small groups matched by age and level, usually as a weekly package with the same instructor. Lessons are arranged by Swim2u Swim School, subject to pool and instructor availability.
Use this page to compare formats, then tell us the learner’s age, level and preferred times. Pool entry is paid separately at the ActiveSG counter.

Class formats compared
| Format | How it works | Often suits |
| Private (1-to-1) | One learner, one instructor | Nervous beginners, adults, specific stroke goals |
| Small private group | Two or three learners who know each other | Siblings or friends at a similar level |
| Small group | Learners matched by age and level | Children working through the same skills |
We confirm the group size, lesson length and fee before booking.
How learners are matched
In small groups, learners are grouped by age and current level. Beginners work on water confidence and floating together, while more confident swimmers work on strokes and distance. If a learner is clearly ahead of or behind the group, we suggest a better-matched group or private lessons.
Weekly schedule
Lessons are usually booked as a package at a regular weekly time. The pool is closed all day on Thursdays (except public holidays), so classes run on the other days. Share several possible days and times, because availability depends on the pool, the time slot and instructor coverage.
Progression
The instructor tells you what the learner worked on and what comes next. Children can work towards SwimSafer stages; SwimSafer test registration and certification are arranged separately and are not automatic. Progress varies from learner to learner.
Instructors and qualifications
Instructor qualifications differ. Swim2u confirms the matched instructor’s current qualifications and first-aid status before you book. A female instructor can be requested, subject to availability.
