Role of a Coach

At the end of this module, you will be able to demonstrate the expected behaviours of a coach.

Expected Behaviours of a Coach

• Attendance and punctuality: Coaches are expected to attend all sessions of the course and be punctual and prepared upon arrival.
• Respectful behaviour: Coaches are expected to show respect to all people involved in the course, including the learning facilitator, fellow candidates, swimmers, outside coaches and parents/legal guardians.
• Positive communication: Coaches are expected to maintain a positive, open environment when expressing their opinions and sharing their experience and knowledge throughout the course.
• Appropriate attire: Coaches must be prepared for active coaching sessions in the pool. All clothing should reflect professionalism and a positive image for the sport and exclude inappropriate language and graphics.
• Initiative and effort: Coaches are expected to participate in group work, presentations, discussions and activities.
• Safe conduct: Coaches must ensure a safe environment for themselves and others, both in the classroom and in the pool. Facility rules must be followed at all times.
