Tembusu Grand Swimming Lessons for Kids and Adults

Tembusu Grand is a completed condominium in the Katong and East Coast area. CDL's 2025 annual report states that the 638-unit development obtained Temporary Occupation Permit in December 2025. CDL and MCL Land identify four residential pool types: a 50-metre infinity lap pool, wading pool, relaxing pool and spa pool.
Residents may enquire about private or compatible small-group lessons, subject to current management approval. Completion and advertised facilities do not prove that external instructors, reserved lanes or every lesson format are permitted.
Quick answer
The 50-metre infinity lap pool may support structured breathing, stroke and distance work when an approved section is safe and available. The wading pool may suit selected beginner activities only after checking its completed depth and layout. Relaxing and spa pools should not be treated as automatic teaching alternatives.
Private lessons provide individual adaptation. Small groups may work for siblings, couples or neighbours whose levels and supervision needs are compatible.
Matching the four pool types to learners
The lap pool is the most obvious candidate for repeatable drills, but its advertised length does not guarantee a dedicated lane. The infinity-edge design, actual depths, entry points, other residents and facility rules must be assessed.
The wading pool's name suggests shallower recreational use, but the instructor should still inspect depth, wall access, steps, ledges and visibility. A relaxing pool or spa pool may contain jets, contours, seating or water movement that conflicts with structured teaching.
Before the first session, identify one approved teaching zone rather than planning to rotate among all four pools.
Kids swimming lessons
Young beginners may practise controlled entry, bubbles, face immersion, floating, returning to a wall, kicking and short propulsion. The instructor should choose the area based on the child's height, confidence and ability to follow instructions—not simply because a pool is called a wading pool.
Independent children may develop freestyle breathing, backstroke alignment, breaststroke timing and repeatable short distances in an approved lap-pool section. They do not need to swim a full 50 metres for a lesson to be productive.
Parents remain responsible for supervision outside the booked session. A completed lesson does not make unsupervised residential pool use safe.
Adult beginner and stroke lessons
Adult beginners may start with exhalation, balance, floating, recovery and short controlled movement. A calm progression is often more useful than attempting the full length before breathing and body position are stable.
Stronger adults may request stroke correction, pacing or endurance. The instructor should adapt repetitions to the shared space and should not promise uninterrupted 50-metre swims.
Ladies lessons and female instructors
A female swimming instructor can be requested for personal, religious or cultural comfort. Assignment depends on East Coast coverage, management access and schedule.
Tembusu Grand's pools are shared residential amenities. A female-instructor request cannot guarantee that other residents will be absent or that the pool will be private.
Private versus small-group formats
Private lessons may suit nervous beginners, learners requiring close prompting or swimmers seeking focused technical feedback. Small groups may suit compatible family members or neighbours.
Assessment should come before grouping. The instructor must be able to see and supervise every participant from one approved zone and should not divide a group between the lap and wading pools.
Access and management checks
Before booking, the resident should confirm:
- Whether external swimming instructors are allowed.
- Whether visitor or service-provider registration is required.
- Whether identification, insurance or credentials must be supplied.
- Whether the resident must escort the instructor and remain present.
- Approved lesson pools, times, equipment and group sizes.
- Any booking requirements for the lap pool or changing facilities.
- Lightning, maintenance and emergency procedures.

First lesson and pool assessment
The instructor should first inspect the approved area, including depth, stable edge access, visibility, steps, ledges and current traffic. The learner can then demonstrate relevant skills.
A beginner assessment may cover comfort, exhalation, floating, recovery, kicking and short propulsion. A stronger swimmer may demonstrate repeatable distances and stroke technique. The plan should identify next skills without promising a fixed completion date.
If the intended area proves unsuitable, rescheduling or using an approved public venue is safer than moving into a spa or relaxing pool without assessment.
Moving from shallow work to the lap pool
A learner should move to deeper or longer water only after showing calm recovery, reliable wall return and the ability to follow instructions. Age or package count alone does not establish readiness.
The transition can begin with orientation at the lap-pool edge and short controlled distances. The instructor should keep the learner near a safe recovery point and extend distance gradually. A single comfortable attempt in the wading pool is not enough evidence for a large change in depth or distance.
Lesson frequency and practice
Weekly lessons may provide continuity; some learners may benefit from two sessions during a focused period. Frequency should fit confidence, concentration, fatigue and safe practice opportunities.
Between lessons, parents can repeat one or two instructor-assigned tasks under active supervision. Adult non-swimmers should not practise alone. Introducing unplanned challenges can undermine confidence and increase risk.
Shared-pool etiquette
Lessons should avoid blocking entrances, travel paths or large sections of the lap pool. Equipment must comply with current rules, and coaching should be considerate of residents.
If the safe teaching area becomes crowded, the instructor should adapt within the approved zone or reschedule. No lesson provider should claim ownership of a lane without formal permission.
Weather, maintenance and closures
Outdoor sessions must stop when the development's lightning procedures require closure. Heavy rain, poor visibility, contamination, maintenance or water treatment may also prevent teaching.
Written terms should cover notice periods, make-ups, credits, package expiry and access changes. Another pool should not be used automatically when the intended area closes.
Fees and booking terms
Fees may vary by lesson format, duration, learner count, travel, package size and instructor arrangement. Ask for a written quotation stating session length, participants, payment schedule, cancellations and expiry.

SwimSafer and safety
Condo lessons are not automatically an official SwimSafer course. Families seeking certification should verify instructor eligibility, programme structure and assessment venue.
Wall return, controlled entry and calm recovery can support water safety, but lessons never replace active supervision or facility rules.
If residential coaching is not allowed
If management does not permit external lessons, ask about an approved public-pool alternative. Public admission, lesson schedules, instructor permission and SwimSafer arrangements must be checked separately.
Using a legitimate alternative is preferable to presenting an instructor as a social visitor or teaching in an unapproved area.
