The Criterion Swimming Lessons for Kids and Adults

The Criterion is a completed 505-unit executive condominium at Yishun Street 51. City Developments Limited records TOP in Q1 2018. Its project factsheet identifies a 50-metre lap pool, kids' waterplay and microbubble hydrotherapy spa among its aquatic facilities.
This guide helps residents assess the shared lap pool for private or small-group lessons. It does not promise management permission, a reserved lane, or suitability of the waterplay and hydrotherapy settings.
Quick answer and verified facts
The 50-metre lap pool is the first teaching candidate because it offers the most conventional named swimming path. Its length does not establish depth, exclusive use or safe conditions at a particular hour.
Kids' waterplay and the microbubble hydrotherapy spa have play or wellness purposes. Current depths, visitor procedures, coaching rules and operating hours require management verification.
Assessing the lap pool
Before lessons begin, inspect depth changes, stable walls, recovery points, steps, ladders, ledges, overflow edges, straight usable distance, crossings from play and spa zones, resident traffic, glare, water clarity, caregiver waiting space and emergency procedures.
A beginner may need only a short section near a dependable wall. Stronger swimmers may use longer repeats when shared conditions allow. A stated length does not create a private lane.
Kids swimming lessons
Young beginners may practise safe entry, bubbles, face immersion, floating, kicking and wall recovery in an assessed part of the lap pool. The instructor should remain within immediate support range.
School-age swimmers may progress to freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke timing, breathing coordination and longer controlled swimming.
Kids' waterplay is not automatically the safest lesson setting. Moving water, play traffic and irregular features can reduce control. A parent or caregiver remains responsible before handover and immediately after class.
Adult and ladies swimming lessons
Adult beginners may start with relaxed exhalation, balance, floating, standing recovery and short movements. Coaching can adapt to anxiety without promising a fixed completion time.
Intermediate adults may work on stroke efficiency, turns, pacing and endurance in the 50-metre pool when space allows.
A female instructor may be requested, subject to Yishun coverage, estate access, schedule and availability. The pool cannot be represented as women-only.
Private and small-group formats
Private lessons may suit nervous beginners or targeted correction. They do not create exclusive pool use.
Small groups may suit siblings, couples or neighbours with compatible abilities. Participant count should permit continuous visibility. Learners needing different support may require separate sessions.
No enquiry guarantees a quiet pool or reserved area.
Hydrotherapy, waterplay and reservoir boundaries
The microbubble hydrotherapy spa is intended for wellness and relaxation. Its bubbles, seating, temperature or compact geometry may interfere with formal teaching.
Kids' waterplay is designed for recreation. It should not be used solely because it appears shallow.
Lower Seletar Reservoir and nearby club water are outside the residential facility and are not ordinary condo lesson venues. Views of water do not provide access or establish suitability.
Access and EC management approval
The Criterion is private residential property. Its EC history, nearby parks, roads and reservoir do not provide pool access.
The hosting resident should confirm whether external coaches are permitted, how visitors register, which entrance to use, whether identification or insurance is required and whether resident escort is mandatory.
An instructor should never be asked to bypass security or follow another resident through a gate.
Scheduling, weather and shared use
Provide several possible lesson windows. Weekday, evening and weekend traffic can differ, but no quiet period should be assumed without observation.
If the lap pool becomes busy, the instructor may shorten repetitions, use stationary drills or reschedule. Moving into waterplay or spa areas solely because they are free is not appropriate.
Outdoor lessons can be interrupted by lightning, heavy rain, heat, wind or glare. Swimming must stop when warnings, management or the instructor require it.
Written terms should cover weather, notice periods, credits, access cancellations and package expiry. Relevant medical or support needs should be disclosed before matching.
Preparation, fees and SwimSafer
Provide the learner's age, current ability, previous lesson experience, water-confidence concerns, preferred days and approximate times. Bring only equipment agreed with the coach and allowed by management.
The first class should include a site assessment and a short in-water baseline. A learner's performance in another pool may not transfer directly because depth, visual cues, water temperature, traffic and recovery walls can differ. The instructor should set initial goals from observed control rather than age or a previous class label.
Useful progress markers include calmer exhalation, independent recovery, stable body position, safer entry decisions and the ability to repeat skills with less prompting. These are more reliable than a promise to complete a stage within a fixed package.
Fees depend on duration, format, participant count, instructor match, travel and estate requirements. This page does not invent a Criterion-specific rate. Review fees and rates.
Lessons may build breathing control, floating, safe entry, wall recovery and stroke skills. Practice here does not itself issue a SwimSafer certificate; formal assessment arrangements must be confirmed separately.
